The Cracked Mirror
By: Keana SkyThe mirror was covered up after the chaotic week of events that had just taken place. A warm, deep indigo-colored blanket, full of pretty pink butterflies, draped over it. The room’s energy was diminished. In another room, Esmerelda was poking about with adventure on her brain after a day of sitting still and reading a history book quietly.Esmerelda loved history; it made her want to explore and seek adventure. As she was poking about, she found a room that captured her attention with its bright green door and mystical feel. Esmerelda felt a pull toward the door, so she walked up to it with excitement.As she surveyed the room, she saw a large book that caught her eye. She walked over, picked up the heavyweight volume, and found a corner of the rug to sit on so she could look through it. The book was about hidden esoteric knowledge. She tried to calm herself and get lost in the pages. As she continued to read, her spirit lightened. She started to feel much better; she took a huge sigh of relief and kept reading with excitement.But as she read, the events of the past kept creeping into the corners of her mind. Suddenly, she could not get the previous week's events out of her head. Thoughts were spinning and swirling in her mind, and a sense of urgency would not go away.Ezzie got up and walked over to her bathroom mirror. At that moment, she had a flashback of the last week's horrific events. Every grueling detail played in her head like a jackhammer pounding on a table; the pain was inevitable. She looked in the mirror, anger written across her face. As she turned to leave the room, her anger boiled over. She turned around with full force and punched the mirror in front of her, shattering it. Glass shards filled the floor and everywhere around her.Ezzie sat in the mess, crying and carrying on with sadness in light of the trauma that had unfolded in the days prior. She finally let it go. She met with the spirit in the sky and released it all, because she knew if she held onto it for too long, she would become a different person—cold, dejected, and unloving. She forgave herself and others now she can live free!
